Last year's World Video Game Hall of Fame inductees included titles such as Bejeweled, Centipede, King's Quest, and Minecraft, all trailblazing games in their own right. While this year's actual winners won't be announced until May 6. the 2021 candidates all possess aspects that proved integral to progressing their respective genres. While these titles span a wide range of eras, platforms, and genres, perhaps one of the more unique candidates listed is Guitar Hero. Launching in 2005. The Strong lauds the game for challenging players to "unleash their inner rock star" by strumming to licensed music on a plastic guitar. The game went on to produce numerous sequels earning over $2 billion, and spawned similar titles like rival Rock Band. Some of the game's developers actually thought the now-iconic Guitar Hero controller was "goofy," and would be a bad business decision, something they thankfully didn't act on.

Animal Crossing, the only Nintendo title to be nominated, is another strong candidate poised to be inducted. Debuting 20 years ago in 2001 for GameCube, the original AC found mass appeal thanks to the game's open-ended nature and mellow gameplay style. The latest installment of the game, 2020's Animal Crossing: New Horizons, continues to set sales records around the world, and is on track to be the best-selling Switch game of all time.

While the criteria to get into the World Video Game Hall of Fame is quite difficult and includes just games themselves, another Hall of Fame just recently added some dedicated gamers. This past fall, an Xbox competition gave players the chance to have themselves inducted into the Xbox Hall of Fame, giving everyday fans a chance to be immortalized in gaming history.

Considered one of the most successful sports franchises in gaming history, FIFA has been a staple for console and PC players for decades now, starting life in the mid 1990s. Alongside the flagship titles, EA's FIFA Ultimate Team, sometimes referred to as FC 24 Ultimate Team, has been an equally important addition to the series for the last decade, with one fan showing ultimate dedication to it by calculating how long it would take to acquire their dream FC 24 Ultimate Team squad.

In a recent post on Twitter, one seriously committed FIFA fan has set a challenge to see if they could get all the players of their choosing without the use of microtransactions. The series of tweets showcases their ideal FC 24 Ultimate Team squad with the goal of seeing if they're achievable without spending a single penny. The Twitter user, who goes by the alias ScudzTV, said their dream team would require 100 million in-game coins to put together.

In calculating how long it would take, they estimate that players would have to put in round 22.000 hours of continuous, 24/7 gameplay, which is the equivalent of around 916 days, or two and a half years. This challenge comes not long after EA Sports President Peter Moore said FIFA Ultimate Team loot boxes were not considered gambling. However, gambling or not, ScudzTV said they would have to pay out nearly £80.000 in total for their team, which is around $111.400 US.

Earlier this month, EA launched an investigation after it was alleged that employees at the company were selling rare FC 24 Ultimate Team cards to gamers, some of which were going for thousands of dollars. The situation caught the attention of the publishing house after fans on Twitter helped get the hashtag #EAGate trending, which led EA to give a statement saying it would bring to justice those who had committed the illicit act, as well as ban the players who had bought them at any point.

With what ScudzTV is telling people on Twitter, many may not be surprised by how much time, effort and/or money needs to poured into an EA-published game in order to get the most out of it. The controversy around loot boxes in buy EA FC 24 Coins, and other games, still rages on, with some countries, such as Canada, filing a lawsuit against EA over damages brought on by them. What's been laid out before everyone regarding how long it would take, and how much it would potentially cost, to put together a dream FC 24 Ultimate Team squad once again does not shine a good light on EA's business practices.
