The Spa at Terranea

This is a new-hotel gem that isn’t bogged down by the issues that sometimes plague debut properties. Guests love the sleek and chic rooms, attentive service, swanky rooftop and pampering spa. Conrad Los Angeles

While Beverly Hills and Santa Monica dominate the luxury scene in Los Angeles, it’s nice to see a few newer options pop up around town. One such property is the new Conrad Los Angeles, a hotel that opened in 2022 as part of a Frank Gehry-designed project in downtown LA. It’s across the street from Walt Disney Concert Hall and walking distance to some of the city’s top cultural institutions like The Music Center, Angel’s Flight railway, and MOCA.

Upon arrival, guests are whisked up to the hotel via a supersonic lift and greeted by a grand lobby at eye level with the metallic swooshes of the Concert Hall’s acoustical roof. From there, 305 spacious suites stretch out over the tower’s 28 floors, and thoughtful touches like floor-to-ceiling windows, L-shaped couches, and barn doors maximize every inch of space.

The onsite spa offers a full range of treatments as well as an infrared sauna and private recovery cabins. I tested out the latter, which use NuCalm Recharge meditation to reduce stress levels and help with sleep quality. It was effective and felt like a good alternative to a quick nap!

Guests can dine at San Laurel and Agua Viva, both of which offer a vibrant fusion of Asian and Latin American flavors. The hotel also offers The Beaudry Room cocktail bar, and a rooftop pool and bar. There’s even a convenient coffee shop on site, which is always nice for those with an early morning workout or sunrise yoga plans.
